Meet Kristina

Education and Career
Hi! My name is Kristina Smaby and I am a 22 year-old, proud native of Holmen, Wisconsin. In 2005, I graduated from Holmen High School. I presently have one semester remaining before graduating from Viterbo University in La Crosse, where I will receive a bachelor's degree in Business Management. After graduating, I aspire to open a national chain of intergenerational family support centers that provide integrated child and adult day care.

Dance
I have been dancing since age three and teaching dance since age fifteen. I am a former member of the Senior Performance Company at Misty's Dance Unlimited where I performed at Disney's Magic Kingdom and on Carnival Cruise Lines. In addition, I have studied dance at Broadway Dance Center in New York, The Edge in L.A., and with numerous national dance conventions, including New York City Dance Alliance, Dance Revolution and JUMP, to name a few. I am also proud to have won the 2007 “Dancing with the La Crosse Stars”, which is a charity event to raise money for the America Red Cross. For Miss America, I will be performing a dance en pointe, but I look forward to sharing other styles of dance throughout my year.

My Journey
My faith is the foundation of my life. Everyday I thank God for giving me the blessings He provides. One of the blessings that I am most thankful for is the journey in the Miss America Program. This was my 4th time competing at Miss Wisconsin before capturing the title. Was I disappointed about not reaching my dream after the first three years? Sure… I wouldn’t be human if I wasn’t sad and disappointed. However, I always understood that God had a plan for me and I needed to trust Him.

Habakkuk 2:3 But these things I plan won't happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.

Galatians 6:9 So don't get tired of doing what is good. Don't get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.

Life isn’t all about success, because without the disappointment we’d never fully understand just how good success should feel.
To those who have a dream and hope always remember:
PATIENCE…PERSISTENCE…PERSERVERANCE
